Is any other food or drink reported to have as many health benefits as green tea? The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. There is currently a green tea craze going on in America spawning all sorts of green tea drinks available for sale in a variety of venues.

You have many, many choices when it comes to buying a green tea drink. They come in many shapes and forms as well as have the branding of many well-known companies. Some of the more popular brands of green tea drinks include:

* Nestea
* Arizona
* Snapple
* First Line Mobility
* And more!

The best part about a green tea drink is that it’s refreshing, easily made, and good for you! Studies have shown that green tea provides so many benefits for those who choose to implement into their diets and their lifestyles. Green tea has been shown to help with conditions such as:

* Cancer
* Arthritis
* High Blood Pressure
* High Cholesterol
* Diabetes
* Alzheimer’s Disease
* Obesity
* And more!

Proponents of green tea as a healing drink already know that putting green tea into your diet in any form is a good idea. So whether it’s a cold beverage, a hot one, pill or tablet form, you should drink at least 4 to 5 cups daily or take at least 300 milligrams in tablet or pill form.

Keep in mind when you drink green tea that the valuable antioxidants inside it can be negated by adding things like milk and sugar. In fact, in England where tea is consumed about as regularly as in Japan, researchers found that they weren’t getting the same healing results as they found in China. The reason probably is because many people in England add milk to their tea. This is the only reason they have found to attribute to the difference in results.

Pre-made teas offer convenience and ease for those who just don’t have time to boil water and sit down to enjoy their cup of tea. That’s just the reality of the society we live in. However, if you do have time to boil that water and dip that tea bag, by all means, do so. You will find that your stress is lessened and you will get health benefits as well as stress relief when you drink your green tea this way.

For years, the Asian population of the world has known the far-reaching benefit of drinking green tea. It is growing in popularity here in the United States as of late and we are beginning to pay attention to what the ancient Chinese already knew. There’s more than just one benefit of drinking green tea – there are many, and we should really sit up and take notice of it!

One large benefit of drinking green tea is that it has the ability to ward off certain cancers and alleviate the symptoms of these diseases. Studies have shown that subjects who drink green tea either halt the onset of the cancer or are better able to cope with the pain that comes with cancer.

Another benefit of drinking green tea is that it can help lower your bad cholesterol and heighten your good cholesterol. For those who struggle with cholesterol problems, this has been a real help as they struggle to keep their levels healthy so it doesn’t hinder their health.

Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease have devastating effects on the body for those who have these insidious afflictions. Drinking green tea on a regular basis has shown to benefit patients by improving the memories of those with Alzheimer’s and alleviating the body tremors that come with Parkinson’s.

Drinking green tea also can provide a huge benefit in the struggle of many people who want to lose weight. The anti-oxidants contained in green tea have shown to speed up metabolism which makes weight loss easier and quicker. People who drank 2 cups of green tea while following a sensible weight loss and nutrition regimen.

I know from experience that a huge benefit of drinking green tea is that it helps makes bones stronger and prevent periodontal disease (gum disease). I had periodontal disease. After extensive dental work, I began drinking green tea in hopes of healing sooner and keeping that horrible disease away from me for good. It worked. My gums have never been healthier!

There are many, many more benefits of drinking green tea and making it part of your daily diet plan. Drinking up to 3 cups of green tea a day can really make a difference in your health and benefit you greatly – even if you don’t have any health problems at the present. It only makes sense to realize the true benefit of drinking green tea to help make sure you DON’T get sick. It really does work!

Then you should read the information below.

Lately, green tea has been getting a lot of attention, recent reports and scientific studies found that green tea has the ability to reduce greatly the risk of many cancers and in some cases it has shown signs of reducing tumors. However, green tea has been around for thousands of years. In China and Japan it is used as a tonic that keeps the body in optimum conditions.

This is our topic for this issue of the Home Made Medicine Newsletter, we will dive into the secrets and properties and we will study green tea, to expose all of its properties. We will answer questions like what makes some teas cure illnesses, and what is the difference between a regular black tea and this wonderful green healing concoction.

Chances are you have already tasted green tea, it is a common treat in most Asian restaurants. What you probably did not realize is that you were drinking a powerful healing remedy. Green tea has been used for more than 4,000 years for medicinal purposes. Only recently, scientists are paying attention to this marvelous plant, as we mentioned above green tea can prevent cancer, but that is not all. Other researches have shown that green tea bolsters the hearts resistance to cardiovascular diseases, increases longevity, detoxifies the body and boosts the immune system.

TIP: Green tea also prevents cavities.

Why does green tea have all these properties and black tea doesnt?

Although green and black tea come from the same plant, it is the processing that sets them apart. Tea leaves contain an enzyme that causes the leaves to oxidate after picking. By steaming and heating the leaves, processors are able to stop the oxidation process. Black tea it is let to oxidate and it is submitted to several more possessing steps which causes it to turn dark brown, and sometimes red.

Unfortunately, this manipulation of the plant reduces and destroys compounds called polyphenols, present in the freshly picked leaves. These compounds are the secret healing weapon contained in the green tea leaves, because it is processed as little as possible, green tea retains all its polyphenols. Out of all the types of teas, green tea contain the highest levels of polyphenols.

What are polyphenols, and what do they do?

Polyphenols are a group of natural phytochemicals (plant chemicals). These phytochemicals are potent antioxidants, antioxidants are the substances that protect the body from free radicals, and free radicals are the reactive molecules that damage the body at the cellular level, causing cancer, heart disease and many other horrible diseases. (To learn more about antioxidants and free radicals read the article titled Antioxidants in our website).

There are primarily four types of antioxidants in green tea that stand out, which give it the properties that green tea is famous for. Many other nutrients can be found in green tea, vitamin C tops the list, containing ten times more than black tea. Also found in different levels are, vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin K and carotenoids (beta-carotine).

The wrong information, gives bad reputation.

Many years ago, there were concerns raised, which made people believe that drinking tea in general might interfere with the bodys absorption and use of iron, which in turns causes anemia. Further research has determined that tea does not increase the risk of iron-deficiency anemia.

Another concern that was raised was the seemingly high level of mineral aluminum some times found in tea, aluminum causes bone and brain disorders. Again further research, shows that the type of aluminum found in tea does not react in any harmful way in the body.

As far as we know, for thousands of years tea has been used without any adverse reaction or downside.

Green tea and cancer prevention

As mentioned before, green tea has a 4,000 year old reputation of health enhancing beverage, although this reputation has been dismissed in the past, modern epidemiologists have paid close attention the this plant, and they have found proof that many diseases are prevented by drinking green tea.

One of the researches was done on a region of Japan called Shizuoka, they concentrated in the area, because statistics showed that citizens of this city had a way below average rate of death from cancer, both men and women. A deeper study showed that in this tea growing region, its citizens drank more cups of green tea than the average Japanese citizens.

After this study, dozens more have taken place, some in Europe and some in the United States and the results only fortify early conclusion. Green tea reduces de risks of cancer.

I'm certain you've heard it, too. Have you ever wondered: "Is it really worth my while to drink tea of the green variety?" Stick around and decide for yourself.

First: The Claims:

A rich source of anti-oxidants:
What are anti-oxidants? Anti-oxidants neutralize "free radicals" or unstable molecules in the body that can eventually become unfriendly and wreak havoc on the cells. Free radical damage can cause everything from sun damage to hardening of the arteries. Green tea will help you bulk up on the anti-oxidant warriors that help to both lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease by controlling blood pressure.

Cancer prevention:
Green tea has been shown to lower rates of cancer in Asian populations. The cancers studied and which have been recorded include: bladder, colon, esophagus, pancreas, rectal and stomach. New evidence suggests green tea may also help prevent prostate cancer, as well.

Help with arthritis:
Studies also suggest there is possible anti-inflammatory and arthritis preventing effects in green tea although, I'll admit, solid scientific evidence was difficult to come by. By simple suggestion, I'll give green tea an A for effort in the arthritis category.

Liver protection:
Green tea has been proven to protect liver cells by stimulating the immune system. Green tea protects the liver by warding off toxins such as alcohol and cigarette smoke.

Teeth protection:
Green tea has been thought to promote oral health (although scientific proof was difficult to come by here, too). Green tea is supposed to work against bacteria, protecting teeth from cavities.

Weight loss:
Here's another benefit that will raise many an eyebrow. Several sources I found claimed that green tea may actually help to stimulate weight loss. Yes! Green tea contains polyphenols (molecule compounds) that actually help the body to burn weight and regulate both blood sugar and insulin levels.

The Bad News

What's the bad news?
The only negative side effect I've found is the simple recorded cases of insomnia due to naturally occurring caffeine in green tea. It looks like there's only 30-60mg in 6-8 ounces of tea, however. That's less than half the caffeine content of coffee which weighs in at 90 mg. per 8 ounce cup.

Other FAQ's About Green Tea:

How much green tea is enough to reap the benefits?
No one seems to be too sure about the answer to this question, either. Let's be realistic - most people could easily drink 3-4 cups of green tea daily. This is a good round number and one that I came up with based on its frequency in the research studied. A suggestion: why not try replacing your usual cup of coffee with a clean dose of health?

Where to get a good cup of tea?
Check out your local grocery for my favorite: Lipton. There's plenty of others, but I like the way Lipton aims to zip up green tea with variety. They even have a orange, passionfruit & jasmine flavor that's de-lish!

If drinking tea really isn't your thing, but you still want the benefits - no problem! Green tea is now available in capsule form, too. This could be as close as your local pharmacy. Check around.

In summation:
In this scientist's opinion, green tea is well worth your consideration. The simple speculation of benefits is enough to get excited about it. It's easy to digest, tastes good and, hey, if it helps me with my goal of wellness and illness prevention, I'll take ample tea time, any day!
