Before accidentally turned into 'black' during its transportation in the 17th century, tea had no color. However, despite that, green tea has a long and wonderful history. Green tea has been around for hundreds of centuries, dating back in Chinese literature as far as 5,000 years ago! It dates back to 2737 BC based on some Chinese legends, stories and some literature.

A man known as Shien Non Shei found the plant, and tasted a leaf from it. He thought it tasted fantastic, and decided to mix it with water to make a drink out of it. He also thought that the plant had medicinal properties. Another story says that the Emperor, Shen Nung, came upon the tea when a leaf from the plant fell into a cup of hot water he was drinking at the time.

The brew that can be called tea appeared around the 2nd century in China, when sun-dried green leaves were chopped and boiled as a drink, the earliest green tea. In the 7th century, the ancient Chinese began to prepare their tea into the shape of pie. Steamed, molded and baked dry, the pie was smashed by a roller and boiled at tea time. Pie tea was popular for a long period until banned by Emperor Hongwu in 1391.

Tea was introduced to Korea at the end of the 4th century along with Buddhism. In 805 AD, a returned Japanese monk brought with him the seeds of tea from Mt. Tiantai of Zhejiang Province and planted the first tea in Japan. (Japan has only green tea and tea-makers still use Chinese steaming method today).

When pie tea was replaced by loose leaf tea, roasting method replaced steaming method in Chinese tea production. There were 58 recorded well-known teas at that time. In 15 of them still in production today, 13 teas are green teas.

In 1673, England imported Chinese green tea for the first time. After the franchise of tea importing being suspended by a Chinese emperor, England started tea plantations in India.

Green tea has been used in China as a healthy, medicinal drink for approximately 5,000 years. Green tea was the drink of choice among the leaders and the wealthy. The tea leaves were used fresh from the plant for tea brewing, lightly heat processed, or even eaten right away. In ancient China, tea was a costly drink, consumed only by the rich and wealthy of the population. However, following the fall of the Mongolian Empire back in 1368 AD, the whole population of China began to experience the wonderful consumption of tea, including green tea.

Between 1405 and 1433, when China had the power of the sea, the seamen were given the necessary amount of green tea. The antioxidants in the green tea they drank fought off scurvy, which killed many Europeans sailors several years later.

Tea consumption was introduced to the United States by Europe, as a part of the worldwide tea trade, and also by Chinese immigrants who owned Chinese restaurants in the United States

With all of the new research that is being done about green tea, there's no doubt that there are very few chemicals included in those green teas that are touted as herbal green teas. Green tea includes ingredients that are there naturally. They are herbal products that make green tea the healing beverage that it is.

The reality today, however, is that you can find green tea in many different forms besides the traditional tea bags and loose tea. You can now find green tea gum, green tea shampoo, green tea skin cream, green tea juice, and green tea well, almost everything. There's a reason for that. It's because green tea is all herbal all natural. When you go all natural, you are making a healthy choice for yourself as well as your family.

When people think of herbal teas, they general think of oolong or some other type of tea, but the reality is that green tea is truly the original herbal tea. It is made from the green tea plant that generally grows somewhere in Asia. Then the leaf is picked and dried. After that, it is steeped in boiling water but not too much! If you steep herbal green tea too much, you will lose the healing properties that come naturally!

Look at what research says about green tea as an herbal remedy for life's problems. Studies have shown that herbal green tea can affect conditions such as:

Diabetes

High Blood Pressure

Cancer

Alzheimer?s Disease

Obesity

High Cholesterol

And much, much more!

So many studies are being conducted daily regarding the benefits of herbal green tea and what it can do for the human body. While no study has ever really been completely conclusive, they still have shown that herbal green tea can help improve your quality of life and help combat disease.

If you have studies that prove that just drinking a hot cup of tea can help you combat Alzheimer's, why wouldn?t you want to try it if you have a family history? Consider the cancer card as well. If consuming just a few cups of herbal green tea a day could help you prevent getting cancer, why wouldn?t you?

When you really look at the health benefits of herbal green tea, you should really take heed of what the researchers say. Those researchers say that green tea can help heal and/or alleviate the symptoms of some pretty serious diseases. Take a cup of herbal green tea every day and then you can thank me later!

Snapple has been one of the leading beverage companies in the world for years, so it's only natural that they add the newest phenomenon to their lineup green tea. Snapple's slogan has always been "The Best Stuff On Earth", and they continue meeting that allegation with the introduction of their green tea beverage.

Snapple Green Tea is a collection of authentic green teas that contain the natural antioxidant EGCG and helps boost metabolism. Snapple's new Green Tea has the most EGCG, with 55mg per bottle, compared to leading ready-to-drink green teas, and is the second in a line of new products that support a "good for you" platform from which the brand will inform and inspire consumers about the health benefits of tea.

The development of Green Teas with EGCG is an important one, as consumers look for more out of their foods and beverages. They want pure, all-natural, high quality ingredients with great taste and real functional benefits. Many think that Snapple Green Tea is a perfect fit. Less than a third of consumers are aware of EGCG, and only 5% know that consuming green tea can boost metabolism.

Snapple Green Teas are authentic, all natural teas available in original, mango and Asian pear flavors. New Snapple Green Teas are made with real sugar -- but less of it, so it's more refreshing and maintains its natural, healthy goodness.

Green tea is currently a fast growing segment for the ready-to-drink iced tea category, due in large part to consumer perception that green tea is the "healthiest" tea. Its apparent good health effects have been documented in the media, from lowering overall cholesterol levels to helping protect against cancers. Studies of green tea consumption indicate that consuming 300mg of EGCG throughout the day boosts metabolism thus aiding in weight loss.

That is precisely why Snapple has come out with its green tea drink to meet consumer demand for a great tasting beverage that is healthy. It is available in 17 ounce bottles for less than $1.50 a bottle, so it is easily affordable for the average consumer.

With the Snapple name, marketing a beverage such as Snapple green tea is worldwide, and it is quickly growing in popularity. They have huge advertising budget and as their name grows in the green tea market, Snapple is poised to overtake some of the early front-runners like Arizona. Either way, the products are out there and they have great healing benefits whether you choose Snapple for your green tea beverage or some other brand, you will be doing yourself a favor either way!

When you want to incorporate green tea into your daily diet, you may be worrying about what kinds of side effects you can expect. After all, green tea is relatively new in the American market and while it is marketed as tea, there really could be side effects that come from a beverage that hails from a foreign country.

The truth is that there are relatively few side effects involved when you want to bring green tea into your lifestyle. The most serious side effect of green tea is that which is associated with the high caffeine content of green teas. The high caffeine content can cause certain people to be highly jittery and anxious.

On the same line, the high caffeine content of green tea can have the exact opposite side effect: energy! That can increase your metabolism which can help your body's natural state of thermogenesis, which is the natural fat burning capacity of the body. When you are able to burn fat, you are able to lose weight quicker.

An elevated level of caffeine " another one of the side effects of green tea consumption " is that you will have more energy. More energy will help you have more effective as well as longer workouts. When you are able to workout more, you are going to be able to lose weight quicker, which is one of the best side effects of drinking green tea!

Other than the higher amount of caffeine, there really are no other huge side effects of putting green tea into your diet. Essentially, having the catechins that are contained in green tea will help you in so many ways, you can't even imagine. You will be able to work out more, but even better than that, you will able to let the natural side effects of green tea take hold of your body and make it healthier than it has ever been before!

The wonderful side effects of green tea are many and varied. You can realize the great benefits in many forms such as green tea extracts, pills, tablets, tea bags, loose teas, and even shampoo and skin care creams. You need not look any further than your local drugstore, supermarket, or even Wal-Mart to find a product with green tea in it so that you can realize the wonderful side effects of this amazing new, yet old Asian secret!

There no doubt about it that the finest green teas come from Asian countries. Chinese green tea is among the best in the world. For thousands of years, Asians, particularly the Chinese, have known the benefits of green tea for a healthy body and mind. Now that the news has spread to the rest of the country, there are many options for you to consider when choosing Chinese green tea.

China is the birthplace of tea. It was there that tea was accidentally discovered by Emperor Shen?Nung over 5,000?years ago. Ever since its discovery by China, tea was used only as a green tea for centuries. Hence China produces the world's finest green teas.

The tea leaves used for green tea are steamed or pan-dried immediately after picking, arresting bacterial growth and preventing oxidation. Then they are rolled by hand to squeeze out excess moisture and to release flavor enzymes. The leaves are finally fired in large driers and packed. When brewed, then turn a light green color, with a flavor that is sometimes delicate and somewhat tangy.

As with any green tea product, there are different varieties you can find when looking for Chinese green tea. Here are just a few:

* Young Hyson: The name of this Chinese green tea means "before the rains" It is prepared using young leaves twisted in a long, thin style. The flavor is more full-bodied and pungent that other green teas. It has golden liquor with a hint of sweetness.
* Temple of Heaven Gunpowder: Gunpowder Chinese gree tea gets its name from the appearance of the leaves, which are rolled tightly into small, round pellets. The tight roll helps Gunpowder remain fresher longer than other teas. This example, "Temple of Heaven," has a sweet and slightly smoky character.
* Zhejiang Mao Feng: This is a popular Chinese green tea, a table-tea for enjoying that healthy everyday cup. Grown in an old established tea garden in southern Zhejiang province, this tea has a good taste and a rich green color. It is a very strong tea with lots of mileage per pot.

And those are only a few of the many varieties of Chinese green tea that can be found. Simply put, however, Chinese green tea is the best in the world as is generally agreed upon by most people. It can be found in loose form as well as in tea bags. When steeping your tea, take care not to overstep as it will lose some of its healing properties. But know that when you choose Chinese green tea for your health, you are making a good choice!
