There's no doubt about that researchers have found many, many green tea benefits. In fact, the results are actually astounding when you consider that this simple beverage has been grown and consumed in Asia for years without us even knowing about it. Once the studies started, the green tea benefits on our health could not be denied.

Space in this article prevents us from listing all of the health benefits from consumption of green tea. However, we can give you this brief list for your consideration about the

Green Tea Benefits

The antioxidant properties of green tea may help prevent atherosclerosis, particularly coronary artery disease.

Research shows that green tea lowers total cholesterol and raises HDL ("good") cholesterol in both animals and people.

Green tea has been used traditionally to control blood sugar in the body. Animal studies suggest that green tea may help prevent the development of type 1 diabetes and slow the progression once it has developed.

Green tea seems to protect the liver from the damaging effects of toxic substances such as alcohol.

Several population-based studies have shown that green tea helps protect against cancer. It also helps ease the painful side effects of chemotherapy.

Green tea also helps prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted organ.

And that are just few of the

green tea benefits

. Without getting too specific, we'll just mention that it strengthens bones preventing osteoporosis, deters periodontal disease, aids in weight loss, and so much more. There's no arguing with science as all of these green tea benefits come from extensive studies done over years.

What is most amazing is that the Asians " particularly the Chinese " have always knows that green tea holds many health benefits. It is, and has been; part of their daily diet and their incidence of death from disease as well as sickness is significantly lower than anywhere in the world. It's truly astounding when you think about it!

Green tea is a natural substance with little to no chemical interactions, so it only goes to follow that there will be some natural green tea benefits that can follow. For centuries people have been finding healing properties in naturally grown products. It has only been recently that we here in the United States have finally embraced the

green tea benefits

on our health and use it to keep us at the best we can be!

This beverage was attributed various medicinal properties and was used for the treatment of different diseases. Western scientists are now beginning to discover the medicinal properties of green tea So far, they have revealed a lot of its excellent health benefits that anyone can take advantage of.

Perhaps the most striking health benefit of green tea is that it can protect you from cancer. The leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant contain various antioxidants in abundant quantities. These powerful chemicals are very well preserved after processing. A group of antioxidants called catechins and one of them in particular, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), can actually inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

Various scientific studies have confirmed this finding. In most cases, cancer cells were treated directly with EGCG. That is why the scientists have not determined yet how much of this catechin is necessary to prevent cancer in humans. Still, tests on breast cancer patients have shown that those consuming green tea are less likely to experience reoccurrence of the condition. Another study has shown that women drinking the beverage are 50% less likely to develop this kind of cancer. Generally, green tea is considered to be beneficial for the prevention of breast, ovarian, colorectal, and pancreatic and skin cancer.

The catechins in green tea combat the free radicals formed in the body due to oxidation. The free radicals are responsible for cell damage and aging. As the antioxidants protect the cells from them, they can effectively protect you from diseases associated with aging. One of the most notable examples is arthritis, which damages the joints and causes severe pain while obstructing movement. It has been discovered that some of the catechins in green tea can actually prevent the chemical reactions causing joint damage. The most notable proof is that much fewer people in Asian countries where green tea consumption is abundant suffer from arthritis than in the rest of the world.

The anti-aging properties of green tea have an extremely beneficial effect for the liver and for the heart. The drinking of the brewed beverage can protect you from cirrhosis. It can also reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. The chemical compounds in green tea make the blood vessels more flexible and protect them from hardening which is associated with aging. In addition, the antioxidants reduce the level of cholesterol in the arteries. In this way, they are prevented from clogging which can lead to heart attack and stroke. Furthermore, green tea can regulate the blood sugar levels and protect you from diabetes.

More detailed studies are necessary, but scientists believe that EGCG and the other green tea catechins can offer protection against harmful brain diseases. One study has found that the brain plaque which causes Alzheimer?s can be reduced by some 54% in mice which have the disease. Another study has revealed that green tea can aid the transferring of dopamine between the different parts of the brain. This can prevent Parkinson?s disease which is characterized by the lack of dopamine in certain parts of the brain.

Scientists have discovered that green tea has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used for the treatment of different types of skin and other infections including acne. These properties of the herbal product can also boost the immunity and give better protection from viruses like influenza.

Green tea contains L-theanine. This powerful amino acid can stimulate the brain to produce alpha brain waves. When the brain is in an alpha state you are more relaxed yet more alert at the same time. For this reason, green tea is recommended in cases of depression, increased anxiety and stress. It can also aid concentration and learning. In fact, there are studies which indicate that green tea can be used for the treatment of ADHD.

The benefits of green tea for weight loss are widely known. Its antioxidants stimulate metabolism and prevent the depositing of fats in the body. Its beautifying properties are excellent as well. The skin is nurtured and protected from aging. Recent studies have found the green tea can even stimulate hair growth. You will really have a dazzling smile if you have the beverage regularly as it protects the teeth from decay.

It can protect you from diseases from the common cold and flu to heart disease and cancer. It has a great slimming effect and actually rejuvenates the skin, while protecting it from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Apart from making you healthier, green tea makes you more beautiful. But can this herbal product be completely perfect? Does it contain any potentially harmful substances, such as caffeine? It is worth receiving an answer to these questions before you start consuming green tea.

Green tea does contain caffeine. The concentration of this chemical substance varies from one product to another. This is because the leaves of Camellia Sinensis, the plant from which green tea is made, are picked at different times. The younger and more succulent leaves contain more caffeine even after they have been dried compared to the ones which have been left to mature to some extent. In addition, when the leaves of the plant are steeped into the hot water for tea preparation, not all of the caffeine contained in them is released to the infusion.

Some people might be put off green tea because it contains caffeine. However, it should be noted that the concentration of this chemical compound in green tea is much lower than in its counterparts ? black and oolong tea. One study has revealed that green tea contains around two times less caffeine than black tea, on average. Moreover, coffee has 5 times higher concentration of this chemical compound compared to this drink. The caffeine in green tea is also less than the one present in the popular energy drinks.

It can be said that green tea is safer compared to its beverage competitors. In addition, you can readily choose a variety which contains less caffeine. You can also consider steeping the leaves for a shorter amount of time to reduce the amount of this chemical compound in your brewed drink. Another option is to use decaffeinated green tea extract. In this way, you will get all the wonderful health benefits of green tea without worrying about the unpleasant side effects that the caffeine might have on your body.

You know that caffeine can be bad for you, but it is worth learning about its negative effects on the body. This chemical compound can increase the heart pulse. It can also cause greater irritability and anxiety. Some people even have sleeping problems, such as insomnia, due to caffeine. It can also increase your blood pressure. For all these reasons, children, pregnant and nursing women and people on specific medications should avoid consuming drinks with caffeine.

This is applicable to green tea as well. Still, this drink contains some beneficial chemical compounds which can actually have the opposite effect on your body. The antioxidants in green tea make the blood vessels more flexible. This automatically reduces your risk of getting an increase in your blood pressure. Green tea is rich in a powerful amino acid called L-theanine. It has a relaxing effect on your body and can effectively reduce stress, anxiety and depression. Several studies have revealed that green tea promotes better night sleep.

Generally, you should not fear the caffeine in green tea. It is not in large amounts and its potential negative effects can be diminished, if not prevented completely. On the other hand, various studies on caffeine have revealed its good side. This chemical compound is actually a powerful antioxidant which makes it quite beneficial. One study carried out by Harvard University researchers has concluded that people consuming caffeine are 2 times less likely to suffer from type 2 diabetes. Other trials have found that caffeine can reduce your risk of colon cancer by 25%, liver cirrhosis by up to 80% and Parkinson?s disease by 80%. More research is necessary to confirm these findings, but the evidence that this antioxidant has various health benefits are growing. After all, caffeine might not be as bad as previously thought.

Green tea contains caffeine, but there are various ways in which you can diminish or avoid its effect. In addition, you can actually benefit from it if you are a healthy adult. The important thing is to consume green tea in moderate amounts. This will allow you to make the most out of it without experiencing any negative side effects.

It reduces your risk of heart disease, brain disease and cancer. It has an anti-aging action. It can kill viruses and bacteria in your body. It can be safely said that consuming green tea is the best natural way for preserving your good health. But there are so many products on the market claiming to offer all the wonderful health benefits. Which is the right one? Is it better to rely on bought tea or to brew your own drink at home? It is worth taking into account the pros and cons for each type of product.

Traditionally, green tea is prepared through steeping the dried leaves in hot water. This is how the drink has been prepared and served for thousands of years in China and later on in the rest of Southeast Asia. This is how the people there consume the beverage to this day. Many researchers believe that the smaller number of Southeast Asian people that suffer from heart disease and other conditions like arthritis is due to the lifelong consumption of traditionally prepared green tea.

More importantly, the brewed drink is used for most trials on humans. Basically, the health benefits of green tea that researchers reveal are based on studies carried out with the traditional brewed beverage. Another important discovery which gives advantage of home brewed green tea over bought products is that the catechins - the most beneficial antioxidants in the drink - are most abundant in the freshly prepared beverage. The catechin molecules are very active, so once the drink is prepared they begin to bond with other molecules. In turn, as the time passes their concentration in green tea is slowly but steadily decreasing.

Based on all these facts, it can be said that the home brewed tea is better. However, this does not mean that the bought products do not contain sufficient amounts of catechins and other beneficial antioxidants. Quite the opposite, several studies have found substantial concentration of favorable nutrients in some ready green tea drinks. The main problem with bought green tea is that it contains other ingredients, apart from green tea, which can reduce its beneficial effect and even be harmful to you. The sweeteners are commonly present in the ready beverages. These automatically increase the calorie count, which equals zero in home brewed green tea. This means that the weight loss aiding properties of green tea are diminished significantly.

The presence of artificial preservatives in bought green tea is not uncommon. Even though some manufacturers use ascorbic acid, known as Vitamin C, not of them all rely on this natural chemical compound. Usually, the artificial preservatives are not harmful to the body, since they have a very small concentration in the drink. However, when you consume the ready-made green tea product on a daily basis as recommended, these chemical compounds might compile in your body and you might experience a negative side effect.

Some bought green tea products contain larger amounts of caffeine than the traditional home brewed beverage. This is not necessarily a problem if you are a healthy individual. On the contrary, you might experience an even more beneficial effect. However, for some people, such as children and the elderly, the higher concentration of caffeine can have harmful effects, like increased pulse, higher blood pressure and insomnia.

The main advantage of bought green tea over home brewed is that it is much more convenient to use. You do not have to go though boiling the water and steeping the leaves. All you have to do is open the bottle or can and enjoy the drink. The taste should be pleasant, even though it will not be the same as the one of the home brewed beverage. If you get a bottled or canned drink, make sure it is fresh and unsweetened.

Overall, you should definitely consider drinking home brewed green tea. It has a higher concentration of the beneficial catechins. Its taste is traditional. It also has the incomparable green tea aroma. Still, when you cannot steep some leaves at home, you can readily get a bottled drink. The important thing is to be aware of its properties, its beneficial effects and its potential side effects.

Tea is fast becoming one of the most popular drinks in the world. Tea tastes excellent, and it is a very versatile drink, but it is also extremely healthy for you as well. Many people understand the health benefits of tea, including Chinese cultures, Japanese cultures, Europeans, Taiwanese and African cultures. Health conscious citizens in America are just now beginning to understand the health benefits of tea, and the fact that drinking tea or consuming tea in other forms can be one of the best things that you can do in order to benefit your body.

Green tea is quickly sweeping the nation, because the health benefits of tea are overwhelming. Green tea is widely known for providing a number of health benefits, including anti aging properties, the elimination of free radicals, weight loss benefits and many other advantages.

Many of the health benefits of tea come from EGCG, which is an extremely powerful natural antioxidant. Antioxidants work to rid your body of harmful free radicals, which can damage the cells in your body, reducing your lifespan and causing other illnesses like cancer. Free radicals are responsible for many of the effects of aging, and the aging process can therefore be slowed down by EGCG and tea. The EGCG in your tea can also help speed up your metabolism, giving you a better sense of well being and making it easier for you to lose weight and remain healthy over time.

Because of the health benefits of tea, there is no greater health drink that you can consume not only to keep you healthy but also prevent and cure some illnesses. Green tea comes from the same plant as other teas, like black and Oolong teas for example. Green tea is different however, because it does not undergo the fermentation process and therefore still contains the EGCG. The benefits of green tea include weight loss, fighting bacteria, fighting infection, preventing tooth decay, repairing your immune system, fighting free radicals and preventing cardiovascular disease.

Green tea, because it is not fermented like Oolong tea, black tea and other forms of tea, offers more health benefits that other forms of tea cannot offer. All forms of tea offer their own unique set of health benefits, so drinking any tea will be beneficial to your health and well being. Black tea, for example, contributes to reducing bad cholesterol and has been linked to healing blood cells. Black tea also contributes to good heart health. Oolong, which is only partially fermented, offers a mix of the benefits associated with green tea and those associated with black tea.

Black tea, Oolong tea and green tea all offer benefits, which make them an excellent addition to your diet. If you can incorporate tea into your diet on a daily basis, then you can benefit long term from the antioxidants that these forms of tea are rich in. The health benefits of tea are numerous, and make it well worth adding to your diet if you want to maintain good health for a long time.

More and more studies are showing that there are great benefits that can be realized when you use green tea in your dieting regimen. In the quest to lose weight, it can be a real struggle, but when you are dieting, green tea can really benefit you and help you achieve your weight loss goals.

Green tea contains valuable antioxidants that have a great impact on the person who is dieting. One study concluded that consuming just one cup per day for a year can cause a five pound loss of weight. Of course, five pounds over the course of a year probably isn't going to make a huge difference, but, hey, it sure couldn't hurt!
Studies on the health benefits of green tea pointed to an increase in metabolism and fat burning of 78 calories per day involving adults. Depending on an individual's size, of course, green tea burns different amounts of calories - more calories where more weight is involved and less calories where less weight is involved.

The specific amount of calories burned depends on the current weight of the individual, but not size alone.Keeping this in mind, an individual's 'calorie burn OR metabolism rate' is continuously affected by other factors - such as food combining, rate of physical activity for the day and so forth.
To get the greatest benefit from green tea while dieting, you must couple the intake with a well-balanced and healthy diet as well as a strong, planned out exercise regimen.

Drinking green tea alone will not help you lose weight; you have to also put a little effort into the process on your own!
Plus, the greatest benefit you get when you drink green tea while dieting is that you are doing so much more for your body than just helping it lose weight. Green tea has been shown to lower cholesterol, lessen your risk of heart disease, prevent certain cancers, and even ease the aches and pains of everyday life.

Green tea can also make you stronger so you can exercise longer.
Adding green tea to your diet while you are dieting will show some huge benefits over time, of course. Besides tasting great and filling you up making you less hungry, you will realize weight loss by just drinking a few cups or taking a supplement with green tea extract in it.

Using green tea while you are dieting will soon show how it can benefit you by the way you look in the mirror!

Green tea is grown in many different regions of the world, but Asian green tea is probably the most well known among the average consumer. Green tea is a wonderful gift from mother earth that has been used in Asia for over 4,000 years. Once reserved for emperors, Asian Green tea has now been discovered by the modern world and is available for all of those who have the wisdom to seek it.
There are many different provinces in Asia that produce some of the finest green teas in the world. Zhejiang is home to the most famous of all teas: Xi Hu Longjing. It is also home to many other high-quality green teas.

Longjing is the most well-known of famous Asian green teas. From Hangzhou, its name in Chinese means "Dragon Well". It is pan-fired and has a distinctive flat appearance in unbrewed form. Falsification of Longjing is very common and most of the tea on the market is produced in the Sichuan Province and therefore not authentic Longjing.

Many Asian green teas are grown in China, but Japanese green teas are also mass produced and among the best in the world as well. Types of tea are commonly graded depending on the quality and the parts of the plant used. There are large variations in both price and quality within these broad categories, and there are many specialty green teas that fall outside this spectrum.

The very best Japanese green tea is said to be that from the Uji region of Kyoto. Shizuoka Prefecture is also famous for its green tea. While Japanese green tea isn't any better than any other Asian green teas, the best quality green teas are known to be grown in this area of the world.

Asians have known for years that drinking green tea is one of the best things you can do for your body. The fact that it has been a major part of their eating as well as their ceremonies shows that they revere this simple plant. It is a drink that keeps them healthy and a plant that helps sustain their economy.

As green tea products grow in popularity all over the world, Asian green tea remains the prime green tea beverage on the market. It can be found in many venues all over the world, even in the United States. Look for a good quality Asian green tea, sample it, buy it, and then make it part of your everyday life as you begin to realize the health benefits that Asians have known for years.

What about the new revolution that is happening in the United States these days, it's the green tea revolution, and it's imbuing everything from our soft drinks to our shampoo to our perfume and to our soap. The truth is that it doesn't really matter how we ingest green tea, as long as we do.

Green tea has been proven to reduce the risk of certain cancers, and alleviating the symptoms of devastating diseases like diabetes, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's. It has even been shown to help people lose weight and gain a sense of calm in a crazy world.

The most common way of bringing green tea into our diets is through the liquid form. We can boil a pot of water, dip the tea bag, and then sit back and enjoy its calming properties. But the truth is that there are many, many products on the market that incorporate the healing properties of green tea, and that includes green tea soap.

Green tea soap contains an extract of the green tea leaf. That extract has a lot of catechins which are antioxidants that provide the healing properties that come from green tea. These catechins have many healing prospects including anti-aging properties and healing aspects as well.

When you find yourself washing with green tea soap, you will not only get yourself clean, but you will be introducing all of the healing elements of green tea into your body in a secondary way. By washing with green tea soap, you can gain all of the health benefits of green tea without having to consume cups and cups of green tea in a liquid form.

There are many brands of green tea soap that have been produced in recent years. Many of these soaps are made by prominent companies such as Elizabeth Arden, Neutrogena, and Dove. You need to look for a green tea soap that is made of as many natural ingredients as possible for maximum effects.

Most green tea soaps are also infused with vitamins and minerals that can help your skin look renewed and rejuvenated. They also contain essential oils that can pamper and moisturize your skin. Green tea soaps generally contain no animal by-products, chemicals, or dyes, so you know that you are getting a quality product.

Whatever form you decide to use to bring green tea into your life, you can't go wrong when you choose a green tea soap. Not only will it get you clean, it will heal your body as well!

Scientific studies continue to show that green tea is good for you.

Tea began its illustrious history as a Chinese medicinal drink, and only gradually did it become the popular beverage that it is today. In traditional Chinese medicine, tea is considered good for you to clear the eyes and head, resolve excess phlegm, promote urination, relieve toxins, aid the digestion, and quench thirst. As with so many foods and medicines, the traditional Chinese medicinal thoughts are being proven scientifically in modern times. Today, there is ample evidence to recommend tea as a daily tonic in the interest of preventing or treating a wide range of maladies, including: cancer, hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, premature aging, food poisoning, dental decay and bad breath, and even arthritis.

Tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.

Green tea may help dieters. In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.

A Japanese report found that men who drank ten cups of green tea per day stayed cancer-free for three years longer than men who drank less than three cups a day (there are approximately 240 - 320 mg of polyphenols in three cups of green tea). Meanwhile, a study by Cleveland's Western Reserve University concluded that drinking four or more cups of green tea per day could help prevent rheumatoid arthritis, or reduce symptoms in individuals already suffering from the disease.

Scientists at the Saitama Cancer Research Institute discovered that there were fewer recurrances of breast cancer, and the disease spread less quickly, in women with a history of drinking five cups or more of green tea daily.

Scientists also discovered that EGCG from green tea can help to prevent metastasis, or the movement and spreading of cancer cells from one organ or tissue to the other by bloodstream or lymph. Cancer cells secrete special enzymes in order to enter and colonize tissues. Research shows that EGCG stops the secretion of these special enzymes.

A case study that was done in China, reports that those women who drank green tea regularly had a 50% lower risk of developing esophageal cancer. Men showed less risk as well, but not as significant as women.

Researchers from Sweden reported that green tea blocked the development of new blood vessels in the lungs. By blocking the development of new blood vessels in the lungs, tumors are less likely to grow and metastasize. Scientists believe that EGCG plays a significant rule in blocking the development of tumors. Similar results were achieved in breast cancer, colon cancer and melanoma studies. It is believed that drinking green tea for an extended period of time will help to prevent and might cure cancer naturally.

The antioxidants found in tea--called catechins--may selectively inhibit the growth of cancer. In laboratory studies using animals, catechins scavenged oxidants before cell damage occurred, reduced the number and size of tumors, and inhibited the growth of cancer cells.
National Cancer Institute researchers are investigating the therapeutic and preventive use of tea catechins against a variety of cancers.

One Chinese study involving over 18,000 men found tea drinkers were about half as likely to develop stomach or esophageal cancer as men who drank little tea, even after adjusting for smoking and other health and diet factors.

In the laboratory, studies have shown tea catechins act as powerful inhibitors of cancer growth in several ways: They scavenge oxidants before cell injuries occur, reduce the incidence and size of chemically induced tumors, and inhibit the growth of tumor cells. In studies of liver, skin and stomach cancer, chemically induced tumors were shown to decrease in size in mice that were fed green and black tea.

Green tea catechins can help to prevent tooth decay by killing the bacteria (Streptococcus mutans) that cause dental plaque. Green tea also contains fluoride. One cup of brewed green tea contains around 0.3-0.5 mg of fluoride. This is an optimal level of fluoride according to dentists. As we all know, fluoride builds in our teeth's enamel, making it more resistant against acidic environment, of our mouth. Green tea also eliminates other bacteria that responsible for bad breath. According to researchers, green tea polyphenols can inhibit, by 30%, the growth of bacteria that causes unpleasant breath.

A study at the Beijing Dental Hospital found consuming 3 grams of tea a day, or about 2 cups, along with the application of a tea extract reduced the size and proliferation of leukoplakia, a precancerous oral plaque.

Recent research suggests that green tea can lower cholesterol (LDL, the "bad one") increase HDL cholesterol ( the "good one") and lower triglyceride levels. Several tests have been done. And Green tea extract showed positive results reducing cholesterol.

At the the end of a 5 week experiment, one group with the regular diet showed blood pressure increases. For the catechin fed group, the blood pressure stayed normal. After this initial testing the scientists switched the diets for the two groups. This switch led to a reversal of the blood pressure trends. The study concluded that drinking moderate amounts of green tea each day can help to prevent high blood pressure.

The catechins in green tea have addiitonally been shown to help prevent excess cholesterol in the blood, killing the bacteria that causes food poisoning, lower blood sugar, as well as helping to control high blood pressure by supressing the production of angiotensn II. Catechin is also a strong anti-oxidant, which aids in aging related concerns.

Green and white tea leaves are less processed than oolong or black teas, which prevents oxidation and retains the highest levels of beneficial compounds. But all teas may be beneficial to your health, so find the ones you like, and drink them daily!
